Police investigations found no elements of criminal wrongdoing in alleged molestation and rape at a mosque mortuary in Melaka. The complaint came from a woman in her 50s against a 48-year-old man believed to be a mosque official or caretaker. Police received the report at 9:12 a.m. on June 4, 2026, and completed a thorough investigation by June 5 without finding any coercion or force, meaning no criminal offence under the Penal Code was established [1, 2].

Melaka police chief Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar said, "The statements obtained indicate that there was no element of coercion, thus failing to establish any criminal offence." He added the allegations had gone viral and sparked local discussion but police confirmed after investigation that the molestation and rape claims did not occur [1, 2].

The alleged mosque caretaker resigned in May 2026, before the police report. Datuk Rahmad Mariman, State Education, Higher Education and Religious Affairs Committee chairman, said mosque authorities could not confirm the reasons behind the resignation [2].

Since no criminal offence was found, the case was referred to the Melaka Islamic Religious Department for further action under the Melaka Syariah Offences Enactment 1991 [1, 2].

The development closes the police investigation while placing responsibility for any further disciplinary measures with the state Islamic authorities.
