A series of serious road accidents in Malaysia between May 25 and 29 resulted in at least 10 fatalities and numerous injuries.
On May 25, a 45-year-old retired armed forces personnel died in a collision between his Yamaha 135LC motorcycle and a BMW car at Jalan Kampung Pandan, Kuala Lumpur. Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa said the motorcyclist was travelling straight from Kampung Pandan roundabout when he collided with the side of the BMW exiting a junction [1, 2].
Early on May 27 near Pekan, Inspector Syah Lokman Ludza Ramli, 50, a police officer, and his wife Nurulfiza Ardiana Ambak, 46, died in a crash between their Proton Wira and a Honda City. Supt Mohd Zaidi Mat Zin said the Proton driver lost control before veering into the opposite lane and colliding with the Honda City. Their four children were injured, with two still receiving treatment as of May 28 [3, 4].
That morning near Kuala Krai Laloh petrol station, a collision involving a Toyota Alphard MPV and Perodua Bezza killed Safinaz Razmi, 52, on site. Subsequent reports confirmed two more deaths: her 22-year-old daughter Jasmin Lyana, who died from severe head injuries at 9:59 a.m., and a one-year-old baby who died around 4:40 p.m., bringing the death toll in that crash to three. Five others were injured [5, 6].
Also on May 27 near Machang, a motorcycle carrying a married couple collided with a Perodua Viva; the woman died at the scene while the husband was seriously injured [7].
On May 28 in Batang Kali, a 67-year-old man died after being crushed by his own Proton Saga car, which rolled backwards due to an unengaged handbrake [8].
That day a section of the Sandakan-Lahad Datu road collapsed from heavy rain, causing minor injuries to a car driver. Authorities set up a diversion lane for light vehicles [9].
Also on May 28 near Jeli, nine men including a 21-year-old suspected migrant smuggler were injured in a crash during a General Operations Force (GOF) pursuit. The vehicle was thought to be carrying undocumented migrants and drugs [10]. From May 18 to 25, GOF raids in Kelantan arrested 19 undocumented migrants and seized items worth about RM1.93 million, including drugs and illegal logging equipment [11].
Late on May 29 at Sepupok Bridge in Miri, a 62-year-old motorcyclist was killed after his motorcycle was rear-ended by an MPV. He was pronounced dead at 9:40 p.m. by a medical assistant [12].
Authorities continue investigating these crashes and providing medical care for the injured. The ongoing probe includes the last incident on May 29 in Miri.
