Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli and Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad resigned as Members of Parliament for the Pandan (P.100) and Setiawangsa (P.118) constituencies, respectively, effective May 18, 2026, returning their parliamentary mandates to voters [1, 2, 3, 4]. Their resignation letters were submitted to Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul, who officially notified the Election Commission (EC) of the vacancies under Articles 51 and 54(1) of the Federal Constitution [1, 2, 3, 4].

Both MPs left Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) and joined Parti Bersama Malaysia (Bersama), a small Penang-based party registered on December 2, 2016 [1, 2, 5, 6, 4]. Rafizi Ramli said, "The letters requesting the vacating of the Pandan and Setiawangsa parliamentary seats were submitted to Johari on Monday" [4].

EC chairman Datuk Seri Ramlan Harun confirmed there would be no by-elections for the two vacant seats, citing the Speaker’s notification that no casual vacancy filling was necessary. He said, "In line with that, no by-election for the P.100 Pandan and P.118 Setiawangsa parliamentary constituencies will be held" [1, 3, 5, 6, 4]. Tan Sri Johari Abdul also stated, "I have also informed the Election Commission (EC) of the vacancies for both parliamentary seats in accordance with Article 54(1) of the Federal Constitution" [2].

Rafizi Ramli and Nik Nazmi announced their intention to vacate their seats and leave PKR on May 17, before their resignations took effect the next day [1, 2, 5, 4]. On May 20, the Speaker informed the EC and the commission issued the final confirmation that by-elections would not be called [1, 3, 4].
