Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim called on Malaysians to safeguard the nation and uphold unity as the pillar of Malaysia’s strength in a message ahead of the 69th National Day on August 31, 2026 [1, 2]. He stated, "Uphold unity among Malaysians of various races as the pillar of our strength, and fill our independence with courage, confidence and a truly free spirit" [1].

Anwar emphasized the importance of justice for all Malaysians, including marginalized and sidelined communities. He asked, "How do we ensure the T20 continue to have confidence to invest? How do we protect the M40 and B40? How do we address the problems faced by Malays and Bumiputera, particularly those who are still feeling marginalised in certain areas? And what about the aspirations of the Chinese, Indians, Orang Asli, Sabah and Sarawak?" [3].

He urged citizens to reject racial, religious, and ethnic division and to "nurture the spirit of sharing, caring and helping so that the country's progress can be enjoyed together regardless of race or background" [2]. Anwar highlighted Malaysia’s diversity, naming communities including Malay, Chinese, Indian, Iban, Kadazan, Murut, Bidayuh and Orang Ulu as the country’s strength [1].

Anwar also appealed for the continued use of Bahasa Melayu alongside proficiency in English, Mandarin, Tamil, and other languages to expand educational and economic opportunities [2].

The government’s economic measures aim to equitably share growth benefits among all Malaysians. Allocations for the Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) and Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) programmes increased to RM15 billion in 2026, the highest in these programmes’ history [3]. Since 2023, the government introduced a 2% income tax cut for the M40 group, reducing revenue by RM1 billion [3]. Electricity subsidies costing about RM4 billion benefit 85% of users under a targeted programme [3].

Ahead of National Day, Anwar spoke at the 15th National Scout Jamboree held at Batu Kawan Stadium, which brought together about 13,000 scouts from Malaysia and abroad with activities including camping and cultural exchange [2]. Penang hosts the Jamboree for the first time in 60 years, according to Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow [2].

The 69th National Day, themed "Malaysia MADANI: Kesejahteraan Dinikmati," will be observed on August 31, 2026 [1, 2].
