Police are searching for five men accused of stealing Telekom Malaysia cables valued at about RM20,000 in Taman Tun Dr Ismail (TTDI) early on June 8, 2026 [1, 2, 3]. The suspects struck at around 4:30 a.m. along Jalan Dato Sulaiman in TTDI [1, 2, 3].

A witness carrying out topographical work saw five men pulling cables from a utility manhole near the location using BMW vehicles. They fled the scene in three BMW cars—two white and one black—after being confronted, according to Assistant Commissioner of Police Hoo Chang Hook. He said, "A witness who was carrying out topographical work in the area noticed five men removing cables from a utility manhole using a BMW car. The witness confronted the group, prompting all the suspects to flee in three BMW cars" [2].

CCTV footage confirmed the involvement of the five men and the three BMW cars in the theft [1, 2, 3]. Telekom Malaysia has assisted police investigations and verified that losses amount to about RM20,000 [1, 2, 3].

Authorities are investigating the case under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft as well as Section 235 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 [1, 2, 3]. Police are urging the public to provide any relevant information at the nearest police station or the Brickfields District Police Headquarters [1, 2, 3].

In a related case, a 35-year-old man was sentenced to three months' imprisonment on June 9 for stealing 60 metres of KTMB railway track cables worth approximately RM850 in Klang. The theft had occurred on June 6 near Jalan Telok Pulai [4].

Police continue to investigate both cases as part of wider efforts to combat cable theft in the region.
