Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah delivered a speech on August 28 warning Muslims against betraying trust and succumbing to greed during a Yasin recital and prayers at Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Mosque in conjunction with Selangor's 69th National Day celebrations [1, 2, 3].
He emphasized that managing Muslim community assets and public funds carries serious responsibility before Allah. "Managing public funds with integrity is a sign of our love for the community and the country. Do not allow wealth meant to benefit the people to be misappropriated for personal gain," the Sultan said [1].
The Sultan expressed concern that while ordinary people face hardship, some enjoy wealth obtained through betrayal and manipulated justice. He said, "This is the injustice that arises when power is no longer guided by trust, but driven by greed" [2].
He warned that those guilty of betrayal and injustice will face punishment from Allah, adding, "Do not ever think that those who commit injustice will escape Allah’s judgement. In reality, Allah delays the punishment of the unjust so that they may feel the severity and fear of Allah’s wrath" [3].
Highlighting the importance of trustworthiness, he called on the community to support honest individuals and continually improve governance systems. He also noted signs of the end times are appearing, including placing responsibilities in the hands of the unqualified and abuse of positions for personal gain [1, 2, 3].
At the event, Raja Muda (Regent) Tengku Amir Shah and Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari were also present to mark the occasion [3].
The Friday sermon titled "Merdeka daripada belenggu Kerakusan" urged Muslims to reflect on true independence as freedom from greed, temptation, betrayal, and destructive impulses [3].
