Six men will face charges under Section 3(1) of the Kidnapping Act 1961 for abducting businessman Chui Kok Mun in Petaling Jaya and demanding a ransom reported between RM7 million and RM8 million [1, 2, 3]. The abduction occurred on July 16, 2026, around 5:15 pm at a nasi kandar restaurant in Dataran Sunway or the surrounding area [3, 4, 5, 6].
Police identified eight suspects during their investigation but charged six while releasing two as prosecution witnesses [1, 2, 7]. The accused are named as A. Ravichandran, R. Elanggovan, M. Jeyaraj, Moses De Britto John Patrick, Ziyauddin, and Muhammad Afiq Safine [3, 4, 5].
Chui Kok Mun, 44, was rescued less than 48 hours after his abduction during a police operation at a residential unit in I-City, Shah Alam, conducted by the Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department [2, 7, 8, 9, 6]. Police seized drugs, mobile phones, and vehicles believed to be used in the kidnapping during the rescue [9]. However, the victim was also arrested under preventive laws on suspicion of links to drug trafficking [2, 7, 8].
The kidnapping charge carries a sentence of 30 to 40 years imprisonment and whipping upon conviction [2, 7, 3, 8, 4, 9, 5, 6]. At a Sessions Court hearing on July 27, 2026, before Judge Dr Syahliza Warnoh, the six accused pleaded not guilty and were denied bail [3, 4, 5, 6]. Deputy public prosecutor Ahmad Loqman Hakim Ahmad Khaire said, "In this case, the amount involved is substantial — RM8 million — and the prescribed punishment ranges from 30 to 40 years" [5].
Datuk M. Kumar, Bukit Aman CID director, said, "The charges will be brought before the Petaling Jaya Sessions Court at 9.30am tomorrow" following the investigation papers submission on July 24 [1, 2, 7, 8, 9]. The court has fixed the next mention for September 11, 2026 [5].
