Three men—carpenter Wong Weng Luen (49), technician Lai Kae Bin (33), and memorial centre worker Wan Ken Fei (30)—were charged for a violent group assault at a Kepong bak kut teh restaurant in Jalan Kepong around 2 a.m. on May 7, 2026 [1, 2]. The victim, Andrew Teh, aged 47 or 48, was attacked after an alleged staredown with the accused, who were reportedly intoxicated [1, 2].

The assault lasted several minutes and involved punching, kicking, and the use of objects including chairs, kettles, and cups on the victim. CCTV footage of the incident went viral on social media shortly after [1, 2].

The men were charged under Section 326 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt with dangerous weapons or means, read with Section 34 on common intention [1, 2]. One source also reported an additional charge under Section 148 related to rioting while armed, carrying a maximum sentence of up to 5 years imprisonment, a fine, or both [2]. The Section 326 offence carries a maximum prison sentence of up to 20 years [1, 2].

They pleaded not guilty to the charges at the Sessions Court hearing held around May 21. The court denied their bail applications, citing the seriousness of the offence and risks they might interfere with the victim or flee [1, 2]. The judge presiding over the case was named as either Noridah Adam or Norlida Abu Hassan by differing sources [1, 2].

The accused were arrested shortly after the assault and were reportedly intoxicated at the time of the incident [2]. The restaurant's name was reported differently, as Restoran Hing Kee Bakuteh or Heng Kee Bak Kut The [1, 2].

The court has fixed the next case mention on June 15, 2026 [1].
