Three policemen died in a suspected electrocution incident around 5:50 to 5:56 p.m. on August 6, 2026, near the Weston Police Station in Kampung Weston, Beaufort, Sabah [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6].
The victims were Corporal Chiu Teck Siong, 40, from Sarawak; Corporal Mohamad Nur Hafiz Ibrahim, 29, from Kelantan; and Constable Muhammad Raimi Ismarubee, 26, from Terengganu. All were rank-and-file officers stationed at the Weston Police Station [2, 3, 7, 4, 5, 6].
Initial witness reports said the policemen were using a metal or iron pole to knock down coconuts when the pole came into contact with an overhead power cable, causing the electrocution [4, 5, 6].
The Sabah Fire and Rescue Department received a distress call at 5:56 p.m. and dispatched a seven-person team with a Fire Rescue Tender from Beaufort, about 28 kilometers away [1, 2, 4]. Sabah Electricity then cut off power at the site at 6:45 p.m., allowing rescuers to recover the bodies. The operation ended by 7:45 p.m. [4].
The bodies were transported to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Kota Kinabalu early August 7 for post-mortem examinations, completed by noon that day. The bodies were later released and flown to their hometowns that evening via Royal Malaysian Air Force and police aircraft [3, 7, 5, 6].
Sabah police commissioner Datuk Jauteh Dikun confirmed the incident and said, "Police have opened an investigation paper to determine the exact cause of the incident. Autopsies will be conducted before the remains are handed over to the next of kin" [4]. Beaufort District Police Chief Supt Champin Piuh added that "sincere contributions from the Sabah PDRM personnel were also handed over to the families of the three officers as a token of solidarity and appreciation for their sacrifices" [6].
