Over 100 electric vehicle (EV) owners from Malaysia and Singapore gathered at Sepang International Circuit for a track day event organized by tech media outlet SoyaCincau and EV brand Dongfeng on June 6, 2026 [1, 2]. The event featured parade laps followed by three 40-minute track sessions, giving participants an opportunity to test their vehicles' performance on the circuit [1, 2].
This year's turnout more than tripled the inaugural 2025 event, which had around 30 participants [1, 2]. Notable EV models present included Dongfeng’s 007, Vigo and Box E2, as well as vehicles from Tesla, BYD, BMW, Proton and Porsche [1, 2]. Dongfeng also offered professional-driven track taxi rides in the 007 model [1, 2].
Amin Ashaari, co-founder and CEO of SoyaCincau, said the event aimed to show that EVs have no limitations and to educate the public about EV pricing and charging. He said, "The event is not about racing on the track but more to allow EV owners to experience the track and test their vehicle’s capabilities. We want to prove that EVs don’t have any limitations" [1]. Amin also acknowledged that EVs currently hold less than 30 percent market share of total car sales in Malaysia [1, 2].
Volt Auto Singapore and Malaysia CEO Soh Ming expressed excitement about participating in the event for the first time on behalf of the brand. Soh said, "It’s a great experience for us as we get to test our cars on the track and gather data on where we can improve further" [1].
Participant Kim Chan, 39, described her debut on the Sepang track as fun and markedly quieter than normal race days. She said, "It was fun and I enjoyed it. I have been here before to see other races, but this is the first time I came to the track, and it was quite strange to see it so quiet" [2].
The event highlighted growing interest in electric vehicles in Southeast Asia, with plans to hold more track days to engage EV owners and enthusiasts [1, 2].
