The Selangor state government declared September 1, 2026, a special public holiday to celebrate the Selangor contingent’s success in winning the overall title at the 2026 Malaysia Games (Sukma), held in Selangor [1, 2, 3]. The Selangor contingent excelled at the Games, winning 101 gold, 73 silver, and 71 bronze medals across 468 sporting events contested [1, 2, 3]. This performance exceeded the contingent’s target of 80 gold medals and secured Selangor’s 10th overall Sukma title, building on previous wins in 1988, 1996, 1998, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2006, 2013, and 2016 [1, 2, 3].

Datuk Seri Amirudin praised the athletes, coaches, contingent officials, and the 10,000 volunteers who contributed throughout the Games. "For the Selangor athletes, our children representing the Red and Yellow team, after 468 sporting events were contested, you successfully won 101 gold, 73 silver and 71 bronze medals. As the Selangor Menteri Besar, I am delighted with this remarkable performance," he said [1].

He added, "As a token of appreciation to every athlete and the 10,000 volunteers who contributed throughout the Games, I am pleased to announce that the Selangor state government has declared a special holiday to celebrate the Sukma 2026 victory, which will fall on Sept 1, 2026, next Tuesday." [1]
