A consortium formed by Singapore-based ComfortDelGro and French transport company RATP Dev, named KBH Metro Partner, will operate and maintain all four lines of the Copenhagen metro system from September 2027 after winning over two other bidders, Metroselskabet announced on August 28, 2026 [1, 2, 3, 4].
The contract is valued at 17 billion Danish kroner (approximately US$2.7 billion or S$3.36 billion) and will last 12 years, with an option to extend for an additional three years [1, 2, 3, 4]. KBH Metro Partner will enter a transitional phase before taking over operations from the current operator, Metro Service [1, 2, 3, 4].
The Copenhagen metro is a fully automated rapid transit network spanning about 43 kilometers with 44 stations. It is one of only three rapid transit systems globally that operate around the clock, 24/7 [1, 2, 3, 4]. In 2025, the system recorded its highest annual ridership at 135 million passengers, achieving operational reliability of 99.3 percent and running trains as frequently as every 90 seconds during peak hours [1, 2, 3, 4].
Metroselskabet awarded the contract to the consortium based on an overall assessment of price and quality. Soren Boysen, Metroselskabet’s director of operations and maintenance, said the contract "is crucial for ensuring that a growing number of passengers continue to experience the metro as a fast and reliable mode of transport." He added, "For passengers, the aim is that the change in operator is carried out as smoothly as possible so that the metro continues to be experienced as the familiar, reliable and efficient part of the capital’s public transport system." [1]
Boysen also noted the contract "will ensure robust daily operations while establishing a foundation to work with KBH Metro Partner in carrying out renewal projects on two of the older lines." [1]
This award marks the third metro operation partnership between ComfortDelGro and RATP Dev, following their work on the southern sector of Paris Line 15 since 2023 and the Jurong Region Line in Singapore, where the consortium was appointed operator in November 2024—the first time a foreign operator was involved in Singapore’s rail industry [1, 2, 3, 4].
KBH Metro Partner is set to begin full operation and maintenance of the Copenhagen metro in September 2027 [1, 2, 3, 4].
