Isak Andic, founder of the Mango fashion group, died on December 14, 2024, after falling 100-150 meters from a cliff in the Montserrat mountains near Barcelona while hiking with his son Jonathan Andic, who was the only person present during the incident [1, 2, 3, 4].

Isak Andic was 71 years old at the time of his death. He founded Mango in 1984, which grew into a global retailer with around 3,000 outlets across more than 120 countries and had an estimated net worth of $4.5 billion at his death according to Forbes [1, 5, 6, 7].

Following the accident, an initial investigation closed in early 2025 after officials found no criminal evidence and concluded the death was accidental [1, 5, 7, 8]. Jonathan Andic, who had held roles managing Mango Man and since January 2025 was vice-chairman of Mango’s board, along with his two sisters, own about 95% of the company [1, 9, 6, 7].

However, the investigation was reopened in September 2025 after inconsistencies emerged in Jonathan Andic’s testimony and new forensic findings cast doubt on the accident theory. Local media and police noted a mismatch between footmarks and injuries at the scene, prompting the judge to designate Jonathan Andic a suspect that month [1, 2, 5, 8].

Jonathan Andic was arrested by Catalan police on May 19, 2026, and was brought before court for questioning. He denied any wrongdoing and maintained his father’s death was accidental. He posted €1 million bail and was released under conditions including surrendering his passport and weekly court appearances [1, 2, 3, 9, 5, 7, 8].

The judicial investigation is ongoing in the High Court of Catalonia under confidentiality. A family spokesperson stated Jonathan was being questioned and they were confident of his innocence. The Andic family had previously said they respect the investigation and expect a timely conclusion proving Jonathan’s innocence [1, 5].

Mango CEO Toni Ruiz reflected on Isak Andic’s legacy, saying, "All of us are, in some way, his legacy and the testimony of his achievements. It is up to us... to ensure that Mango continues to be the project that Isak aspired to and of which he would feel proud." [1]

The court conditions and ongoing inquiry mean Jonathan Andic’s legal status will remain under scrutiny as the investigation proceeds.
