A performer for the WaterWorld show at Universal Studios Singapore experienced a medical emergency during a training session on May 19 and was rushed to Singapore General Hospital, Resorts World Sentosa (RWS) confirmed [1, 2].
The emergency call was received by the Singapore Civil Defence Force at about 10:35 a.m. on May 19 at the theme park’s address on 30 Sentosa Gateway. Fellow performers noticed the individual was in distress and provided immediate help before emergency services arrived [1, 2].
The performer was employed by a vendor appointed to the WaterWorld attraction, which features live-action stunts involving fire and water effects, inspired by the 1995 film of the same name [1, 2].
RWS began reviewing the incident after the training emergency. On May 26, the company announced the performer had died days after the medical episode and expressed condolences to the family, the vendor, and fellow cast members. Lena Lee, RWS executive vice-president of attractions and destination experience, said, "We are deeply saddened by the passing of a WaterWorld performer and send our condolences to the family, our show vendor and his fellow performers during this very difficult time" [1, 2].
The WaterWorld attraction remains temporarily closed and will not reopen until December 31, 2026, according to RWS [1].
