A tuberculosis screening exercise conducted at Bedok Central screened 3,525 people from May 2 to mid-June 2026, targeting tenants, workers, and frequent visitors to key locations in the area [1, 2, 3].
Of those screened, 509 people (14.4%) tested positive in blood tests requiring chest X-rays [1, 2, 3]. A total of 447 individuals completed these chest X-rays. Among them, one person was diagnosed with active TB disease and has started treatment; contact tracing is now underway to prevent further spread [1, 2, 3].
The chest X-rays also showed 42 minor abnormalities that require further evaluation. The remaining 404 X-rays were normal but indicated possible latent TB infection, which does not cause symptoms or spread disease but may require monitoring or treatment [1, 2, 3].
As of the latest update, 62 people still need to follow up at local clinics or the National TB Screening Centre for further assessment and care [1, 2, 3].
TB remains endemic in Singapore, with rates detected during this exercise consistent with expected levels. In 2024, Singapore recorded 1,156 new cases of active TB, an incidence rate of 27.6 cases per 100,000 residents, according to health authorities [1, 2, 3].
Free TB screening and follow-up tests at Bedok Central will continue until June 5, 2026, allowing remaining participants to complete necessary assessments [1, 2, 3].
