Associate Professor Faishal Ibrahim resigned from politics on July 20, stepping down as a Member of Parliament and a member of the People's Action Party (PAP) [1, 2, 3, 4]. He cited a "lapse of judgment" over his interactions with a member of the public. There was no physical relationship and most exchanges took place via online messages, Faishal said [2, 3].
The remaining MPs from Marine Parade-Braddell Heights Group Representation Constituency (GRC) — Seah Kian Peng, Goh Pei Ming, Tin Pei Ling, and Diana Pang — announced they will take over Faishal's constituency responsibilities for the Kembangan ward [1, 2, 3, 4]. They will handle all meet-the-people session cases and appeals previously managed by Faishal. Their duties will also include ongoing initiatives supporting the elderly, vulnerable families, and community cohesion in Kembangan [1, 2, 3, 4].
Seah Kian Peng said the team is "deeply saddened" by Faishal's resignation and called him a "valuable member" with a "big and kind heart" [1, 2, 3]. He added, "Immediate priority is to ensure Kembangan residents are taken care of" and assured that "business will go on as usual" [2, 4]. Goh Pei Ming emphasized that their "commitment and level of support to all residents under our care will stay the same" while stepping up coverage in Kembangan [2].
Faishal Ibrahim began his political career in 2006 as part of the PAP’s Marine Parade GRC team. He later served 15 years as MP in Nee Soon GRC before returning to Marine Parade for the 2025 General Election, where the team won uncontested [2, 3].
Kembangan residents expressed shock and sadness at Faishal’s resignation. Retiree Rita Chan described him as a "very good MP" who was often seen visiting residents at their homes [4]. To manage constituency engagement, MPs will rotate weekly meet-the-people sessions in Kembangan as they work out a more permanent arrangement [4].
