The Law Society of Singapore is applying to have Workers' Party chief Pritam Singh struck off the roll of advocates and solicitors after his conviction for giving false evidence under oath, the society confirmed today [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]. Pritam Singh was convicted in February 2025 on two counts of lying under oath to the Committee of Privileges during an investigation into former WP MP Raeesah Khan’s conduct [2, 3, 4, 5]. Under the Legal Profession Act, a legal practitioner convicted of an offence involving fraud or dishonesty must face disciplinary proceedings initiated by the Law Society through the Court of Three Judges [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]. A Law Society spokesperson said it was legally required to start disciplinary proceedings against Singh based on information from the Attorney-General’s Chambers that he had been convicted of offences involving "fraud or dishonesty" [2]. Possible sanctions range from striking off the roll and suspension of up to five years to fines up to S$100,000, or a combination of these penalties [1, 2, 3, 4, 5].
Previous rulings establish that striking off is the presumptive sanction for dishonesty unless exceptional circumstances apply [2, 3, 4, 5]. In July 2026, a lawyer convicted of lying to the police about a drink-driving incident was struck off, reinforcing this precedent [2, 3, 4, 5].
Pritam Singh is currently a non-practising lawyer and serves as a Member of Parliament for Aljunied GRC [2, 3, 4, 5]. On April 30, 2026, the Workers’ Party central executive committee issued him a formal letter of reprimand after a party disciplinary panel found he breached two articles of the party constitution following his conviction [2, 3, 4, 5].
The disciplinary hearing before the Court of Three Judges is scheduled for August 13, 2026. It will be chaired by Chief Justice Sundaresh Menon alongside Justice Kannan Ramesh and Justice See Kee Oon [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]. The court will decide on the appropriate disciplinary sanction against Singh.
