Police received a call for assistance at about 8:55 pm on May 26 at Block 248 Choa Chu Kang Avenue 2. A 21-year-old woman, Ms Chua Bee Ting, was found lying motionless at the 12th-floor lift lobby and was pronounced dead at the scene by an SCDF paramedic [1, 2, 3, 4].

The police arrested 22-year-old Mohamad Faiz Umar, who was known to the woman. He was taken to National University Hospital after being found lying on the ground floor near a damaged dustbin and appearing injured [2, 3, 5, 6]. Neighbors reported hearing a loud noise around 9 pm. Ms Devi, a resident, said, "The bin was covering him, but his head and hands were exposed. He was bleeding" [1].

Preliminary investigations revealed Faiz had stabbed Ms Chua [4, 6, 7, 8]. The nature of their relationship was not disclosed but both were known to each other [9, 1, 2, 3]. The police cordon near the 12th-floor lift and garbage chute was removed by the morning of May 27 [9, 1, 6].

Student Chai Zhi Qing described the noise heard as "like a construction sound" [9]. Resident Ms Seema said she heard emergency responders asking, "where is my son", and Ms Rysha noted Ms Chua was "the same age as me" [5].

Police confirmed Faiz will be charged with murder in court. The charge was made on May 28 at the hospital court. If convicted, he faces the death penalty [4, 6, 7, 8]. Faiz's case has been adjourned to June 18, 2026 [8, 10, 11].
