Emerson Poh Jun Wei, 31, was sentenced on May 18 to one year and nine months’ jail and two strokes of the cane for possessing 79 sexually explicit videos involving 87 identifiable children, including a toddler around two years old [1, 2, 3].
The police raided Poh’s home on September 7, 2023, uncovering the child abuse material stored on his laptop, desktop, and mobile phone [1, 2, 3]. Poh pleaded guilty in court in 2025 to one count of possession of child abuse material [1, 2, 3].
At the time of the offence, Poh worked as an operations assistant at an undisclosed local company [1, 2, 3]. Authorities set Poh’s bail at $25,000 during the court process [1, 2, 3].
Poh began watching pornographic videos in 2013, initially streaming from search engines and downloading from Telegram and Twitter links [1]. Around 2018 to 2019, he started accessing child abuse material via Tumblr, focusing on videos and photos of boys aged 12 to 16 [1, 2, 3].
When Tumblr removed such content, Poh downloaded and stored as much child abuse material as possible on his Google Drive, laptop, and desktop computer [1, 2, 3]. Google suspended his Drive account in 2023 after discovering the material [1, 2, 3].
Deputy Public Prosecutor Zhou Yang said, "Progressively, the accused came to prefer child abuse material involving young boys around 12 years old, and he became addicted to watching such videos" [1]. Poh transferred some explicit videos to his mobile phone gallery for easy access [1, 2, 3].
