Singapore’s government announced the new SG Child Support Package during the National Day Rally speech on August 23, promising almost S$70,000 (US$55,140) in total support per child from birth to age 17 [1, 2, 3, 4, 5].

Prime Minister Lawrence Wong said the government aims to make a "fundamental shift" in family support by replacing complex schemes with consistent aid that does not vary by birth order. He added, "The schemes have become quite complex, and many parents find it hard to understand. We will make things simpler. Every child will receive the same level of support" [1, 6].

The package includes a S$10,000 Baby Gift paid in two tranches within 12 months of birth, S$32,000 in Child Credits delivered as S$2,000 annual cash payouts from age 1 through 16, a S$5,000 Child Development Account (CDA) First Step Grant, up to S$5,000 in government CDA co-matching, and a S$10,000 Post-Secondary Education Account top-up at age 17 [1, 2, 7, 8, 4, 5]. Existing benefits such as the S$5,000 Medisave Grant for Newborns and annual Edusave contributions are included, bringing total government support to about S$70,000 per child by age 17 [1, 2, 3, 4, 5].

The package removes previous birth order limits on payouts and extends eligibility, including children from single-parent families, who previously faced restrictions under some schemes [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]. More than 610,000 children across around 380,000 households are expected to benefit as of June 2026 [1, 2, 3, 4, 5].

Alongside the financial support, the government also enhanced childcare leave entitlements. Working parents with children aged 12 and below will receive increased childcare leave: 8 days annually for one child, 10 days for two children, and 12 days for three or more children. This merges and improves upon previous leave schemes that provided 6 days for children up to age six and 2 days for ages 7 to 12. Employers will be reimbursed by the government for these child-related leave costs within set limits [6, 9, 10, 11].

The new SG Child Support Package terms will apply to children born on or after April 1, 2027. Payouts under previous Baby Bonus schemes will continue until March 31, 2027, with government CDA co-matching capped at S$5,000 from September 30, 2027 [7, 8, 12].
