The Magical Bridge Playground at Sun Plaza Park in Tampines officially opened on June 17, 2026, unveiling the city-state’s first slide designed specifically for wheelchair users [1, 2, 3, 4]. The playground spans roughly 3,800 square meters—about half a football field—and is organized into four zones inspired by different seed dispersal methods [1, 2, 3, 4].
Designed for inclusivity, the facility offers barrier-free access, wheelchair-accessible equipment, quiet zones, and a sensory garden to support sensory and developmental needs. Senior Minister of State for National Development Sun Xueling said, “Beyond physical accessibility, the playground also caters to different sensory and developmental needs. There are quiet corners and hideaway huts for those who need a calmer environment, and a sensory garden with raised planters filled with herbs and plants that are safe to touch, rich in scent, providing therapeutic benefits” [1].
The wheelchair-accessible slide was developed by the US-based Magical Bridge Foundation, known for innovative inclusive playground equipment [1, 2, 3, 4]. It features a "slide-and-sit landing" allowing wheelchair users to move onto a bench-style platform for caregiver assistance or to let others use the slide [1].
Additional play amenities include a ground-flush spinning carousel, diverse swings, and an amphitheater for community events [1, 2, 3, 4]. Bright, contrasting colors on surfaces and equipment assist visitors with low vision [1, 2, 3, 4]. The entire playground is fenced to offer caregivers peace of mind while children play [2, 3, 4].
The project was a collaboration between the National Parks Board and Magical Bridge Foundation, with local partners SPD Singapore @ Tampines and M.Y. World @ Tampines North providing input [2, 3, 4]. Funding included a $3.9 million donation to the Garden City Fund from Magical Bridge Foundation board members Amanda and Vince Steckler [2, 3, 4]. Amanda Steckler continued supporting the project after her husband Vince, former CEO of AVAST Software, died in 2021 [2, 3, 4].
This playground marks Magical Bridge Foundation’s second project in Singapore, following the opening of "A Whale of A Tale" outside the National Museum Singapore in October 2025 [2, 3, 4].
Senior Minister Sun Xueling spoke at today’s opening ceremony, emphasizing the playground’s comprehensive accessibility features [1, 2, 3, 4].
