Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) practitioners and registered clinics in Singapore will be allowed to submit joint healthcare management proposals beginning the week of May 23, 2026 [1, 2]. The plan seeks to create innovative care models integrating TCM to enhance overall health outcomes for residents [1, 2].
Only accredited TCM clinics and practitioners are eligible to participate, and Healthier SG clinics must have been onboarded for at least one year [1, 2]. Senior Minister of State Koh Poh Koon announced the initiative on May 23 at the National Exemplary Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners Awards 2026 ceremony, co-organized by the Ministry of Health (MOH) and the Academy of Chinese Medicine, Singapore [1, 2].
Koh said, "As we are in new territory, we will begin with a small-scale proof-of-concept and set strict requirements to ensure safe and quality care" [1]. He called the awards "a natural step" affirming "an inclusive healthcare landscape where professionals from both Western medicine and TCM are recognised for their expertise, dedication and their service" [1].
The government envisions TCM providers contributing to preventive care by offering dietary and lifestyle advice as well as referring patients to Healthier SG clinics for vaccinations and screenings [1, 2]. The number of regulated TCM practitioners has grown from 1,000 in 2000 to more than 3,500 in 2026 [1, 2].
The May 23 awards recognized four practitioners for their work elevating TCM quality, safety, teaching, and mentoring [1, 2]. Koh also announced on May 23 that he will resign from his post as Senior Minister of State for Health and Manpower effective June 1, 2026, citing family reasons [1, 2].
MOH plans to engage the TCM community in July 2026 to discuss a new accreditation framework for practitioners and services [1, 2]. This engagement aims to further standardize and elevate TCM practices in Singapore.
The joint healthcare management proposals can be submitted starting the week after the awards ceremony, marking the first step toward integrating TCM in preventive and overall healthcare in Singapore [1, 2].
