Muhammad Firdaus Abdul Rahman, a 37-year-old Singaporean, was sentenced to five years (60 months) in jail on August 28, 2026, for assisting an organised Cambodian crime ring in scamming over S$650,000 from at least 14 victims in Singapore [1, 2, 3].
Firdaus committed the offences while under a remission order after serving a 31-month jail term for a previous cheating conviction, resulting in an additional 236 days added to his sentence [1, 2, 3]. Deputy Public Prosecutor Xavier Tan said, "If the person they called believed them, they were to transfer the call to another line for one of their colleagues to talk to (the victims). If a victim transferred funds to the syndicate, Firdaus and Jerome would get a cut of the money, depending on who made the initial call" [1].
Before October 2024, Firdaus was recruited by Jackson Lim Soon Lai for a so-called "scam job" based in Cambodia offering a base pay of S$1,000 plus a 3% commission [1, 2, 3]. On October 3, 2024, he flew to Cambodia with Lim and another accomplice, Chris Jerome, to work from an office near the Cambodia border where about 60 people operated the scam [1, 2, 3].
Between October and November 2024, Firdaus and Jerome made calls to Singapore numbers, impersonating the Singapore Cyber Emergency Response Team. They tricked victims into transferring calls to other syndicate members who pressured them into transferring funds [1, 2, 3]. Around April and May 2025, Firdaus helped collect nearly S$656,800 from the victims, receiving at least S$1,000 for his role and knowing the funds were criminal proceeds [1, 2, 3].
After returning to Singapore, Firdaus assisted Jackson Lim in gathering publicly available information and photos of the Singapore Police Force and Monetary Authority of Singapore [1, 2].
Firdaus was previously convicted of cheating in 2022 and jailed for 31 months. The remission order required him not to commit another offence between September 24, 2024, and August 3, 2025, but he reoffended during this period [3].
The court added 236 days to Firdaus's jail term due to his offences committed under the remission order. The sentencing on August 28, 2026, marks the latest punishment in this case [1, 2, 3].
