St Joseph’s Institution International (SJI International) will relocate from its current Thomson Road campus to a new facility at 1033 Upper Serangoon Road in Hougang by 2030 after nearly 23 years at Thomson Road [1, 2, 3, 4].
SJI International originally opened at 490 Thomson Road in 2007. Its tenancy there is set to expire in early 2030, coinciding with the planned move to the Hougang site [1, 2, 3, 4]. The new Hougang campus is currently occupied temporarily by Anderson Serangoon Junior College (ASJC), which moved there in December 2023. ASJC will return to its permanent campus in Ang Mo Kio by December 2027 after upgrading works [1, 2, 3, 4].
The Thomson Road campus has been zoned for residential use since the Urban Redevelopment Authority’s 2014 Master Plan. However, the specific type of housing planned for the site remains under study. An URA spokesperson said, "The type of residential housing planned for the site is still being studied" [1].
SJI International informed parents of the relocation plan in a letter dated January 23, 2026, and will hold an initial parent engagement session in early March 2026 to gather feedback and update stakeholders [1, 2, 3, 4]. The school emphasized the plan is "subject to final approvals" and that it is "working closely with the relevant authorities" during the transition [1].
At the end of the 2024 financial year, SJI International reported a building and development fund of approximately $2.34 million to support current campus improvements and future developments. Sources differ slightly on the exact figure, with some citing $2,342,000 and others noting it as "more than $2.34 million" [1, 2, 3, 4].
The relocation will follow Anderson Serangoon Junior College’s vacating of the Hougang site in late 2027, allowing SJI International to prepare the new campus for its arrival in 2030 [1, 2, 3, 4].
