One hundred vending machines dispensing convenient meals priced at $3 and below will be rolled out across the North West District by the end of 2026 to help families cope with the rising cost of living, officials said [1, 2, 3, 4]. The Ready Meals @ North West programme was announced on May 30, 2026, by Coordinating Minister for Social Policies and Health Minister Ong Ye Kung at Block 106B Canberra Street [1, 2, 3, 4].

In the first phase, 14 vending machines have already been deployed across 14 North West divisions near public rental blocks, including Woodlands Rise in Canberra, Ghim Moh Road in Ulu Pandan, and Senja Road in Zhenghua [1, 2, 3, 4]. By the fourth quarter of 2026, the programme will progressively expand to reach up to 100 vending machines across all 20 divisions in the district, with up to five machines per division depending on ground feedback [1, 2, 3, 4].

The meals are prepared by Taste Asia, a ready-to-eat meal brand under Singapore-based Select Group, and include dishes like Thai basil minced chicken with rice, penne with chicken bolognese, Ayam Kicap Manis with rice, along with healthier options such as Japanese curry chicken with mixed grain rice and creamy chicken wholemeal carbonara [1, 2, 3, 4]. All meals are halal, and vegetarian choices plus quick bites like sandwiches will also be available [1, 2, 3, 4].

Select Group will sponsor $600,000 worth of meal credits, which amounts to about 200,000 meals, to approximately 6,000 low-income households in the district [1, 2, 3, 4]. These households will receive dedicated cards to redeem free meals from the vending machines [1, 2, 3, 4].

The vending machines operate 24 hours daily. Their meal replenishment frequency varies from daily to weekly depending on usage and shelf life. Sensors monitor stock levels and alert vendors when supplies run low [1, 2, 3, 4].

Minister Ong Ye Kung said the initiative "will complement various Government support measures to help Singaporeans manage the current economic uncertainties and cope with day-to-day expenses" [1]. North West District Mayor Alex Yam added the machines "are part of the effort in ensuring all residents can access affordable and convenient meals whenever they need to" [1].
