Aga Khan Studs confirmed two runners for the €1.5 million Qatar Prix du Jockey Club (2,100m) at Chantilly on May 31, 2023. The entries are Daryzan, trained by Francis-Henri Graffard, and Dolmalan, trained by Mikel Delzangles [1, 2].
Daryzan is the race's second favourite and a half-brother to Group 1 winner Daryz. Both colts are home-bred by sire Zarak and out of Aga Khan mares, continuing the stud's focus on proven bloodlines [1, 2].
Dolmalan enters the race unbeaten after three starts, including a win on April 28 in the Listed Prix de Suresnes preparatory race at Chantilly. Trainer Mikel Delzangles praised the colt, noting he overcame a slow-paced race to quicken and win. "He is an easy horse to train, one who is progressing, is very straightforward and should find the 2,100m distance ideal," Delzangles said. Jockey Clement Lecoeuvre will ride Dolmalan [1, 2].
Delzangles also trains Alam, a second contender in the Qatar Prix du Jockey Club but owned by Al Shaqab Racing and Sheikh Joaan Al Thani. Alam captured the Group 3 Prix Greffulhe (2,100m) at Saint-Cloud on May 5, 2023 and is regarded by Delzangles as a big, late-developing horse showing further progress recently [1, 2].
Daryzan notably won the Group 1 Prix Aga Khan IV (1,850m) on May 21, 2023, making him a strong contender in the top-tier race [1, 2].
The Qatar Prix du Jockey Club will be held at Chantilly on May 31, featuring a 2,100 meter test for some of Europe's leading three-year-olds competing for the €1.5 million prize fund [1, 2].
