Sergio Perez sees the upcoming Monaco Grand Prix as a critical chance for Cadillac to improve its Formula One results after a difficult start to the 2026 season. Perez said, "It can be one of our biggest shots so far. But we have to see where we are in the low speeds. I think if we are able to be competitive in the low speed, Monaco can be a track that can bring us something" [1].
Perez, 36, returned to F1 this season with Cadillac after missing last year due to losing his Red Bull seat. He described his comeback as "very enjoyable" and said the project and challenge have been "extremely motivational" [1].
So far, Cadillac, backed by General Motors, has struggled to break into the midfield pack. The team’s best qualifying position is 18th, and its highest race finish is 13th after five rounds [1, 2]. Perez uses a Ferrari engine in his Cadillac car and outpaced teams such as Audi, Aston Martin, Haas, Williams, Alpine, and even Red Bull in the recent Canadian Grand Prix sprint race, where he initially finished 11th but was penalized and dropped to 14th for forcing another driver off track [1, 2].
Perez brings experience to Cadillac on street circuits. He won in Monaco in 2022 with Red Bull and finished third there in 2016 with Force India after starting seventh on the grid [1, 2]. The tight, low-speed nature of Monaco suits his driving style and offers potential for surprise results. Cadillac has recruited talent from other teams as it tries to climb the ranks amid limited overtaking opportunities at Monaco [1, 2].
Perez remains focused on delivering consistent performances across the season. "You never know when your opportunities will come. You just have to make sure that you deliver 1,000% every single Sunday and see what happens. You never know which race will be the one," he said [1].
