Victoria Junior College clinched both the A Division girls' and boys' floorball championships on May 28 at Our Tampines Hub, marking their third consecutive girls' title sweep [1, 2, 3].
The girls defeated Nanyang Junior College 4-0 in a dominant final. Forward Chyanne Yang, 17, scored a hat-trick, including the opener two minutes after Nanyang’s early shot hit the crossbar. She added two more goals in quick succession, then completed her trio in the 42nd minute [1, 2, 3]. Yang credited her teammates for their support throughout the season and in the final, saying, “I just believed in my teammates and I couldn’t have done it without them because they made all the passes... We stood with each other throughout the season, during training and we cried together, laughed together, everything we did together” [1].
Yang entered the final with only one goal from five games. She had promised coach Jatin Nair she would "pay him back" after earlier matches, and the coach said, “She told me that today (that) she will pay me back for all the goals she didn’t score for the other games... The girls had another plan. They brought their attacking boots today, goals and everything were very nice to watch” [1, 2]. Nair praised the squad’s discipline and giving everyone a chance to play.
The boys' final was a tighter affair, ending 0-0 after regulation against Eunoia Junior College. The match was physical and cagey before Victoria Junior College prevailed 3-2 in a penalty shootout [1, 2, 3].
VJC’s twin championships underscore their strong floorball program and dominance in both divisions. The victories came on the same day at the same venue, Our Tampines Hub.
The teams will now prepare for the next season, aiming to defend their titles and build on their successes.
