ComfortDelGro has served more than 1,500 riders since starting its invite-only autonomous vehicle trial in Punggol on April 7, 2026, using five-seater shuttles on a 12 km route with seven stops including Punggol Plaza and Oasis Terraces [1, 2, 3]. Grab began invite-only autonomous shuttle rides in Punggol in January 2026 and opened public rides from April 1. It has served over 5,000 passengers and logged more than 60,000 km of autonomous driving since then [1, 2, 3].
Grab operates two autonomous vehicle routes in Punggol in partnership with Chinese AV firm WeRide, connecting amenities like Punggol Coast MRT station and the polyclinic. ComfortDelGro runs one of three AV routes in the area [1, 2, 3].
ComfortDelGro employs nine safety operators seated behind the wheel during trials who can take control when necessary. Michael Huang, head of ComfortDelGro’s Singapore point-to-point mobility business, said manual interventions have declined as the AV system adapts to local driving conditions, including tropical weather and traffic patterns [1, 2, 3]. He noted some residents and grassroots leaders were invited to try the service before public bookings opened [1].
ComfortDelGro considers its AV technology mature despite a minor incident during trials. Wider adoption remains hindered by public acceptance and the high cost of AV technology [1, 2, 3]. The company aims for a global fleet of 3,000 autonomous vehicles by 2030, prioritizing China for faster commercialization while exploring other markets [1, 2, 3].
Grab has not announced when paid autonomous shuttle rides will begin but had expected to start by mid-2026. When revenue service launches, Grab plans a flat fare of S$4 per passenger; ComfortDelGro has not disclosed pricing [1, 2, 3].
