Amazon on May 4 launched Amazon Supply Chain Services, giving businesses of all types and sizes access to its freight, distribution, fulfillment and parcel shipping network. [1]
The service broadens a logistics offering that had been used mainly by thousands of independent third-party sellers. Amazon said the new platform is open to companies across healthcare, automotive, manufacturing and retail. [1]
Amazon is positioning the service against UPS and FedEx in shipping and logistics. The company said customers already include Proctor & Gamble, 3M, Lands’ End and American Eagle Outfitters. [1]
Peter Larsen, vice president of Amazon Supply Chain Services, said the company is bringing “the infrastructure, intelligence, and scale of its supply chain services—proven over decades—to businesses everywhere, much like Amazon Web Services did for cloud computing.” [1]
Amazon said the service is now available, with the launch aimed at extending its logistics capabilities beyond its own marketplace sellers to a wider corporate customer base. [1]
