Amazon CEO Andy Jassy met Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on June 25, 2026, to announce an additional $13 billion investment in India focused mainly on AI and cloud infrastructure in Mumbai and Hyderabad regions [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7]. This raises Amazon’s total planned investment in India to $48 billion over the next five years [1, 2, 3, 6]. From 2010 through 2030, Amazon’s cumulative investment in India is expected to exceed $88 billion [2, 4, 5, 7].
Jassy said the company will invest "more than $21 billion in AI and cloud infrastructure" as part of the $48 billion plan and emphasized the long-term vision: "We are very excited about the future and what we can build is still in the early stages" [1, 4]. He highlighted that by 2030, Amazon plans to support 3.8 million jobs, enable $80 billion in e-commerce exports, and bring AI benefits to 15 million small businesses and 4 million public school students across India [4, 5, 6, 7].
In line with the investment, Amazon will open more than 20 new fulfillment centers and over 100 last-mile delivery stations throughout 2026 to expand its logistics and quick commerce services in India [3, 6].
The Indian government offers long-term tax breaks to attract data center investments, contributing to growth in the country’s data center capacity which increased from 350 megawatts in 2019 to about 1.6 gigawatts in 2025, a 29% compound annual growth rate [2, 3]. Other major U.S. tech firms have also announced large investments in India’s AI and cloud sector, including Microsoft’s $17.5 billion and Google’s $15 billion commitments [1, 2, 3, 6].
Modi said the investment "shows the growing global interest in investing in India," reflecting the country’s rising stature as a tech hub [4].
In December 2025, Amazon had announced a $35 billion investment plan covering multiple businesses in India, following an initial $15 billion commitment in 2023 that included $12.7 billion for AWS cloud services [1, 2, 3].
Amazon’s next steps include executing the expansion of its cloud infrastructure and fulfillment network throughout 2026 and continuing to scale AI-related initiatives in the Mumbai and Hyderabad regions.
