Rivian started delivering the 2027 R2 electric SUV Launch Edition to customers this month in the US, pricing it at about $59,485 including destination charges [1, 2, 3]. The R2 targets mainstream buyers with a two-row, five-seat design on a new platform aimed at volume sales [1, 2, 3].

The Launch Edition Performance model delivers 656 horsepower and 609 lb-ft of torque from a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system. It accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 3.6 seconds and offers an EPA-estimated range of 330 miles per charge [2, 3]. The vehicle measures 185.9 inches long, roughly the size of a Toyota RAV4 or Tesla Model Y, and has 9.6 inches of ground clearance, comparable to the Jeep Wrangler Sport or Sahara [1, 3].

The SUV’s 87.9 kWh usable battery supports charging at up to 230 kW, enabling an 80% charge in under 30 minutes [3]. Rivian plans multiple R2 trims, including a Premium model priced around $53,990 arriving late in 2026 and a Standard single-motor version expected in 2027 for approximately $44,990. The Standard model will offer range options between 275 and 345 miles [2, 3].

Since the 2021 launch of its R1 series, Rivian has sold about 175,000 vehicles, far behind Tesla’s 8 million, despite nearly $25 billion spent over eight years [2].

Rivian’s next step will be releasing the R2 Premium trim late this year, followed by the more affordable Standard version in 2027 [2, 3].
