Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi said the ride-hailing company wants to become an “everything app” for travel, with hotel bookings through a partnership with Expedia and new services such as coffee and snacks delivered inside rides and personal shopping. [1]

Khosrowshahi also said Uber has tested AI tools and chatbots for booking rides, but found them clunky and slower than the app. [1] He said the company still sees room for AI inside its service, even as it keeps the core app at the center of the experience. [1]

Uber’s chief technology officer said the company had used up its AI token budget by early April 2026, forcing managers to rethink hiring speed and team structure. [1] That spending pressure has pushed the company to weigh where AI can cut costs and where it adds complexity. [1]

The company is also pouring money into autonomous vehicles, including a large investment in Rivian. [1] Khosrowshahi said he sees a future in which self-driving cars could replace human drivers. [1]

Inside Uber, the rise of AI has even produced a joke about an internal “rogue Dara,” a sign of how deeply the technology has entered the company’s planning and culture. [1] Uber’s next step is to keep building out its travel and delivery services while pushing ahead with autonomous vehicle bets. [1]
