Amazon launched Luna cloud gaming integration within the Prime Video app on Fire TV devices today in the US and UK, allowing Prime members to play games included with their membership without additional fees or downloads [1, 2]. Users can access Luna by selecting a new Games tab inside Prime Video and play using a controller or phone [1, 2].
Titles available at launch include Hogwarts Legacy, EA Sports FC 26, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Fallout 4, Dispatch, Clue, Ticket to Ride, and Taboo [1, 3, 2]. Amazon plans to add new games monthly and extend Luna integration to more countries and devices in the near future [1, 3, 2].
Jeff Gattis, Amazon’s GM of Gaming, said the integration targets casual gamers who already use Prime Video rather than core gamers invested in consoles or high-end PCs. He noted, "For a lot of people, games have been harder to find than they should be. Bringing Luna inside Prime Video allows Prime members to discover games more naturally, and if they see one they like, they click it, and they’re in. That’s less time searching and more time playing great games included with their Prime membership" [1].
Gattis added that the cloud service aims at a broader audience who may never own a console or gaming PC, stating, "I think there is a much broader audience that will probably never own a console or never own a game PC and never get a chance to play a lot of these games. That's where I believe in the cloud" [1].
Amazon has consolidated Prime Gaming, Luna, and Amazon Game Studios into one group focused on expanding reach through Prime Video [3]. The integration also aims to promote tie-in games related to Prime Video content, such as Masters of the Universe: Legends Unite [3, 2].
This move comes as cloud gaming competition intensifies. Microsoft, after its $75.4 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard, is testing ad-supported Xbox Cloud Gaming tiers to lower costs and attract more players. The Xbox division said, "Our goal is simple. Give more people more affordable ways to play" [4].
Prime costs $14.99 per month, which now includes access to Luna gaming through Prime Video [4]. Amazon plans continued expansion of the service with new games and availability in more regions in the coming months [1, 3, 2].
