A 17-year-old Indian-American, Arjun Aravind, has been charged with the murders of his mother, Sudha Venkatesan, 45, and his younger brother Siddharth Aravind, 14, at their home in Acton, Massachusetts, about 40 km northwest of Boston [1, 2, 3, 4].

Authorities disclosed that Arjun used the internet and the AI platform ChatGPT to research and imagine scenarios involving the killing of family members prior to the murders [1, 2, 3, 4]. His usage included creating dark gothic stories and exploring hypothetical violent scenarios repeatedly, sparking questions about the link between his AI-directed concepts and the acts in real life [4]. Investigators are examining the extent of this connection [4].
The charges against Arjun include two counts of murder, two counts each of assault and battery on family members, additional assault and battery counts, theft of a motor vehicle, and unauthorized use of a vehicle [1, 2, 3, 4]. Prosecutors noted that Arjun had shown concerning behaviors before the killings, including extensive online research into murder fantasies [1, 2, 3]. He had also reportedly gone missing nearly a year earlier but had little contact with law enforcement in the interim [4].
