Saudi Arabia told OPEC its crude oil production fell by 651,000 barrels a day in April to 6.316 million barrels a day, the lowest level since 1990, reports said on Wednesday. [1, 2, 3]
The reports linked the drop to the Iran war, which disrupted exports from the Persian Gulf. One report said production was down 42% from February. [1, 2]
OPEC secondary-source estimates put Saudi output slightly higher at 6.768 million barrels a day. Saudi Arabia said its "supply to market" was 6.879 million barrels a day. [2]
The reports also said total April output from OPEC members fell by 1.727 million barrels a day to an average of 18.98 million barrels a day, with Saudi Arabia accounting for about half the decline. Kuwait's output fell to about 600,000 barrels a day, roughly half its level the previous month. [2]
The UAE planned to leave OPEC in May after about six decades of membership, one report said. The reports were published on May 13. [2, 3]
