Palestinian ambassador to the United Nations Riyad Mansour, backed by envoys from the Arab Group and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), urged US President Donald Trump to stop Israel's rapid annexation of the occupied Palestinian territories on Thursday, June 4 [1, 2].
Mansour warned that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s actions threaten regional stability. He said, "I know that President (Donald) Trump is capable, and he has the tools to stop Netanyahu in his tracks, in order not to keep the whole region in turmoil...and to move in the direction of peace and justice, that is why the majority of us are working with them" [1]. Mansour also cited Trump’s apparent direct warning to Netanyahu, stating, "We know that he told (Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin) Netanyahu, including recently, stop the nonsense in Lebanon, stop the craziness. You know you are not allowed to annex the land" [1].
The Arab Group expressed “deep alarm” at what it called rapidly escalating Israeli settler aggression and military violence against Palestinians. Saudi Arabia’s ambassador Abdulaziz Alwasil said Israel is carrying out "policies that amount to accelerated annexation and a systematic dismantling of Palestinian rights" [1].
The annexation includes continuing settlement expansion in the West Bank and Israeli military control of at least half of Gaza territory, according to the envoys [1, 2].
Turkish deputy ambassador to the OIC, Fikriye Asli Guven, demanded urgent United Nations Security Council action to halt annexations, expansion of settlements, forcible displacement, and other unlawful activities in the occupied territories, including East Jerusalem. She said, "The Security Council must take urgent and effective measures... to ensure accountability in accordance with international law" [1].
These calls followed statements from the US administration warning Israel against annexation efforts. The combined appeal illustrates growing international concern over escalating Israeli policies in Palestinian lands.
The next step includes potential Security Council deliberations urged by the OIC to address the annexation and settlement activity in coming sessions [1, 2].
