Georgia football safety Ja'Marley Riddle was arrested on May 8, 2026, on Interstate 95 in Glynn County, Georgia, on two felony drug charges and a misdemeanor speeding charge involving his driving at around 95 mph while weaving through traffic in a red Dodge Durango [1, 2]. Police stopped Riddle after detecting the odor of marijuana from his vehicle. During the traffic stop, officers found a heat-sealed bag labeled as marijuana and vape products containing THC inside a backpack in the back seat [1, 2].

Riddle appeared nervous and shaking when stopped and consented to a vehicle search [1, 2]. He was charged with possession of marijuana greater than one ounce and possession of a Schedule I controlled substance according to one source [1]. Another source says he faces felony charges for purchase, possession, manufacture, distribution, or sale of marijuana, as well as possession of a Schedule I or II controlled substance [2]. He was also issued a misdemeanor speeding citation [1]. Riddle posted bond on all three charges, with bail amounts reported as $4,258 for marijuana possession, $12,058 for the controlled substance charge, and $210 for speeding [2].

Riddle transferred to Georgia from East Carolina University, where he earned first-team All-AAC honors in 2025 and recorded over 130 tackles and 6 interceptions in two seasons [1]. He was expected to compete for playing time in Georgia's secondary but was limited in spring practice due to a leg injury [1].

The arrest adds to a series of driving-related incidents involving Georgia football personnel since January 2023. Earlier incidents include the deaths of staffer Chandler LeCroy and offensive lineman Devin Willock in a single-car crash, and the arrest of linebacker Jamon Dumas-Johnson for racing and reckless driving on the highway [1].

A university spokesman said, "We are aware of the charges and are actively gathering additional information. As this is an ongoing legal matter, we will not be providing further comment at this time" [1].
