Google is launching a new line of Android XR smart glasses in partnership with Samsung, Warby Parker, Gentle Monster, and Xreal, expected to debut by fall 2026 [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6]. The first models to arrive will include audio-only glasses from Warby Parker and Gentle Monster. More advanced versions featuring in-lens displays will follow shortly after [2, 3, 4, 5].

At Google I/O 2026, Google showcased prototypes of these glasses with several partners. The previews included hardware updates and live demos across all models [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6]. A Google representative said, "The glasses will allow you to keep your phone in your pocket so you can remain in the moment without completely disconnecting" [4].

Xreal's Project Aura offers a distinctive model in the lineup. It features a larger 70-degree field of view and connects to an external compute puck that includes a fingerprint sensor and trackpad. However, the puck tends to get warm under heavy use, reaching about 90 degrees Fahrenheit during tests [1, 3, 6]. The glasses also support hand tracking and gesture controls for interacting with virtual user interfaces [1, 6].

Other display glasses currently in prototype form use a built-in screen over one lens offering roughly a 20-degree field of view. Specifications remain subject to change as development continues [1, 5]. Audio quality during demos was reported to be impressive, and the Gemini AI assistant worked smoothly, providing voice commands, live translation, music playback, navigation, and contextual information [3, 5].

These glasses will function as companion devices, pairing with both iOS and Android phones to offload processing and enable extended XR experiences [2, 4]. A TechCrunch reporter said, "The glasses we tested were still very much a prototype, although one polished enough to now be tested externally" [2].

No official price or exact release date has been announced, but shipments are expected to begin in late 2026 [4]. This launch follows Google's December 2024 announcement of the Android XR platform and partnerships with Samsung, Warby Parker, and Gentle Monster [3]. The coming months will likely reveal more details as the fall release approaches.
