Google unveils Android 17 at The Android Show ahead of I/O

Google unveiled Android 17 and Gemini-related features at The Android Show: I/O Edition on Tuesday, a pre-I/O event streamed live on YouTube and the Android website at 10AM PT/1PM ET. ^{[1, 2, 3, 4]}

Google also tied Gemini into the Android 17 pitch, as part of a broader set of Android ecosystem announcements. Sameer Samat appeared to signal the company would keep the focus on the platform update when he answered a question with: “Not happening!” ^{[1, 2, 5, 4]}

Lifehacker said Android 17 beta testing began in February, and that the update had looked small before the event. Other reports said the Android Show was expected to run for around half an hour or less. ^{[2, 5]}
