Prometheus, an AI startup co-led by Jeff Bezos and Vik Bajaj, announced closing a $12 billion Series B funding round that values the company at $41 billion as of June 11, 2026 [1, 2, 3, 4]. This follows its November 2025 launch with an initial Series A raise of $6.2 billion [2, 4].

The startup focuses on creating AI-powered engineering tools it calls an “artificial general engineer” to automate design and manufacturing of complex physical products, aiming to accelerate engineering workflows by at least 10 times and improve prototyping, manufacturing, and drug design [5, 2, 6, 3, 4]. ‘‘It’s really a set of tools that will give those engineers the ability to turn their dreams into reality much, much more quickly than is possible,’’ Bajaj said [7]. Bezos added that companies building sophisticated devices like rocket engines could benefit greatly from these technologies [6].

Prometheus currently employs about 150 people with offices in San Francisco, London, and Zurich [5, 2, 6, 3]. Bezos serves as co-CEO alongside Bajaj, a veteran of Google’s parent Alphabet and co-founder of Verily [5, 2, 6, 7, 3, 4]. Since stepping down as Amazon CEO in 2021, Bezos has focused on Prometheus and related ventures including Blue Origin and AI startups [5, 2, 3].

Investors in the latest round include JPMorgan Chase, Goldman Sachs, BlackRock, DST Global, and Arch Venture Partners [1, 5, 2, 4]. Prometheus plans to invest heavily in computing infrastructure, possibly using Amazon Web Services, to support AI’s intensive compute needs [2, 7, 3, 4].

Bezos expressed opposition to broad AI technology restrictions. ‘‘You don’t want to accidentally outlaw the knife because it can be used in a bad way... That’s not a smart approach to regulation,’’ he said [7]. He forecasted AI-driven productivity growth would raise living standards and create labor scarcity rather than mass job losses [2, 3]. ‘‘Significant productivity in the economy is going to raise the standard of living,’’ Bezos said, ‘‘People who today have two-earner households, they’ll become one-earner households’’ [2].

Despite speculation, Prometheus is not currently developing robots [7, 3].

The company’s next major development schedule was not disclosed.
