Plex has rolled out new social features to boost user interaction and content discovery, including the ability to create and share personalized lists of movies, shows, or episodes, now available to all Plex users [1, 2]. Starting in August 2026, Plex launched its Discussions community forum, allowing users to post comments and engage in conversations about movies and TV shows within the platform [1, 2]. The forum’s content will be moderated through a combination of AI tools and human reviewers to manage both visual and written posts [2].
Later this year, Plex plans to enable users to import lists from other streaming services and to react directly to friends’ lists, enhancing social sharing across platforms [1, 2]. Additionally, a Match Score feature will debut, using user viewing history and rating patterns to predict how much a user will enjoy a given title. Scott Olechowski, Plex’s co-founder and chief product officer, explained, "It looks at the things you watch and the way you rate them, and turns that into a simple percentage that tells you how closely a title lines up with what you tend to enjoy. The idea is to take the guesswork out of discovery, so instead of scrolling endlessly, you get a quick, personal read on whether something is likely to be for you" [2].
Another feature set for later release is "Follow Anything," which will notify users about movies, shows, actors, and crew members they choose to follow [1, 2].
Plex users currently make over 100 million watching decisions per month and have created more than 45 million watchlists, highlighting the platform’s active base [1]. The Discussions forum launched this month, and other new functions are scheduled to roll out as the year progresses [2].
