Toyota Motor said on Monday it will build a fourth factory in India, with the new plant set for Maharashtra and production due to begin in the first half of 2029. [1, 2]
The Japanese automaker plans to make a new, as yet unspecified SUV model at the site. Toyota said the plant is expected to start with annual output of 100,000 vehicles or units and create about 2,800 jobs. [1, 2]
Toyota said the facility will also serve as an export hub for nearby markets, including African countries. The company is expanding in India as it looks to grow sales in a market where it faces competition from local manufacturers. [1, 2]
Toyota already operates two plants in Bidadi, Karnataka, and plans to begin work at a third plant in the same region later in 2026. That would leave the company with 4 plants in India after the Maharashtra factory comes on line. [1, 2]
Toyota sold 371,536 units in India in fiscal 2025, according to one report, while Toyota Kirloskar Motors sold 388,801 units last year. The new Maharashtra factory is scheduled to start production in the first half of 2029. [1, 2]
