Aardman Animations and The Pokémon Company co-produced a new stop-motion animated series titled Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch'd & Pichu, scheduled for release in 2027 [1, 2, 3]. The show is set in the Galar region, introduced in Pokémon Sword and Shield and inspired by the United Kingdom [1, 2, 3].
The series follows Sirfetch'd and Pichu on a humorous and offbeat quest to help and protect Pokémon across Galar. According to the official synopsis, their missions often do not go as planned and explore themes of friendship, peril, alliances, rivalries, and encounters with extraordinary Pokémon, all told with a distinct British comedic storytelling style similar to Aardman’s Wallace and Gromit and Shaun the Sheep [1, 3].
The project was first announced in 2024 with a teaser released in 2025 [1, 2, 3]. New footage from the pilot episode and artwork were shown at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in June 2026 [1, 2, 3]. Sarah Cox, Aardman chief creative director, said, "Aardman is delighted to bring the vivid physicality of stop frame animation into the Pokémon world. Director Tom Parkinson and team have created a hand-crafted spin on the wonderful Pokémon we all know and love with comedic storytelling that celebrates the quirks, eccentricities and charms of our heroes as they explore Galar on a delightfully offbeat quest" [2].
Phil Rynda, Director of original animation at The Pokémon Company International, praised Aardman’s work, saying, "This project gives us a unique opportunity to tell stories from the point of view of Pokémon, made possible by Aardman's extraordinary craft, remarkable artistry. Their warmth, and affection for this much-loved Pokémon cast are evident in every brilliantly crafted frame" [2].
No exact release date or streaming platform has yet been announced for the series, which remains set for 2027 [1, 2, 3].
