Amazon MGM Studios, Blur Studios, and Games Workshop are collaborating to develop an animated series based on Warhammer 40,000, focusing on The Deathwatch, an elite Space Marine squad hunting alien threats [1, 2, 3].

The series acts as a spin-off from the Warhammer 40,000 episode featured in the 2024 Amazon Prime Video anthology series Secret Level, expanding the story world with a long-form narrative yet to have detailed episode counts or story specifics revealed [1, 2, 3].

Dave Wilson, who directed the Warhammer 40K episode of Secret Level, will co-create and direct the new animated series. He explained, "Secret Level wasn't conceived simply as an anthology. It was designed as a launchpad for larger stories. The response to the Warhammer episode was extraordinary, particularly from fans who understood how much care went into getting the world right. This series gives us the opportunity to build on that foundation and tell a much larger story" [1].

John Orloff, known for his work on Band of Brothers, is also a co-creator and writer for the series, bringing his narrative expertise to the project [1, 2].

Henry Cavill serves as an executive producer for the animated series and continues his involvement in Amazon’s live-action Warhammer 40,000 projects, which are still in early development with scripts recently entering the writing stage [1, 2, 3].

Tim Miller, the creator of Secret Level and co-founder of Blur Studios, joins the production team as an executive producer alongside Cavill [2, 3].

Amazon began exploring Warhammer 40,000 adaptations in 2023 and completed live-action project negotiations in 2024, with the animated series now building on that foundation [2, 3].

No release date or episode count has been announced yet for the animated show, but the teams behind it are moving forward with development on several Warhammer 40,000 projects for Amazon.
