Activision revealed Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 with a trailer, release date, and platform details in May 2026. The game is scheduled to launch worldwide on October 23, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PC, and the Nintendo Switch 2 [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]. This marks the first time since 2013 that a Call of Duty title will skip last-generation consoles, as it will not release on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One [1, 2, 6, 3, 4, 5].
Developed by Infinity Ward, the game features a single-player campaign set during a full-scale North Korean invasion of South Korea. Players will experience the story through multiple perspectives, including a young Korean soldier named Private Park and the iconic Captain Price, who is described as a wanted man operating outside official channels and at odds with former allies [1, 2, 7, 4, 5]. The campaign takes place across diverse locations including Korea, New York, Paris, Mumbai, and the Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) [2, 7, 3, 4, 5]. It supports offline play and allows pausing [4].
Multiplayer includes reworked movement mechanics with new abilities like Supine Slide, pipe climbing, and mantle cancel. The gameplay focuses on grounded, precise gunplay with no weapon bloom for hipfire. At launch, there will be 12 core 6v6 maps, along with expanded Gunfight modes offering 3v3 and 10v10 formats, as well as large-scale Big War maps [8, 9, 2, 3, 4, 5].
A highlighted feature is the dynamic multiplayer map "Kill Block," set inside the Westbridge Training Facility. It reshapes sightlines, routes, and cover by offering over 500 reconfigurations between rounds, forcing players to adapt constantly [2, 3]. Activision said, "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is built natively for current-generation consoles and PC, enabling greater scale, density, responsiveness, and consistency across every mode" and described gunplay as "consistent, predictable, and fair" with shots more connected to aiming [1, 2].
The Nintendo Switch 2 version is developed in partnership with Digital Legends and will launch simultaneously with other platforms, ending a 13-year absence from Nintendo consoles [6, 5].
Additionally, Warzone will no longer be playable or downloadable on PS4 and Xbox One starting in June 2026, with downloads disabled from June 4 and the in-game store removed on June 25 [1, 4].
Season 1 for Modern Warfare 4 and Warzone will begin shortly after the October 23 launch [1].
