Capcom has responded to criticism that the Onimusha: Way of the Sword demo is too easy, following its download milestone of over 1 million across PC and consoles by early June 2026 [1, 2].

The demo features the game's protagonist Musashi in an early story segment but grants him some late-game abilities to showcase a broad range of combat actions [1, 2]. Some players said the demo lacked challenge, citing low enemy aggression and the ability to defeat foes merely by button mashing [1, 2].

Akihito Kadowaki, producer of Onimusha: Way of the Sword, acknowledged the feedback in a June 2026 video. He said, "We’ve heard the feedback that the demo felt too easy for some people. First, the demo is just a slice of the early part of the story. Also, we really wanted you to enjoy a variety of Musashi’s actions, so we intentionally equipped him with some late-game skills. Because of that, some players might have felt a lack of challenge. Rest assured, in the final game, the bosses and the regular Genma will put up a tougher fight" [1].

Onimusha: Way of the Sword, revealed at The Game Awards in December 2024, marks the first true sequel in the Onimusha series since the PlayStation 2 era [1]. The game is scheduled for release on September 25, 2026, for PC, consoles, and the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 [1].

Capcom’s official response came on June 7, 2026, shortly before the demo surpassed one million downloads [2, 1]. The final release is expected to offer increased difficulty and more challenging enemy encounters compared with the current demo.

Onimusha: Way of the Sword will officially launch on September 25, 2026. [1]
