CD Projekt Red revealed Songs of the Past, the third and final expansion for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, ending the game's 11-year lifecycle since its 2015 release [1, 2, 3, 4]. The announcement came at Gamescom Opening Night Live on August 22, alongside the The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Remastered version set to launch on September 29, 2026, free for existing owners [1, 5, 3, 4].

Songs of the Past takes players to Letten, a new region in northern Redania described as a lush, peaceful countryside with an aristocratic family home but a dark secret beneath the surface [1, 6, 5, 2, 3, 4]. Karolina Kuzia, vision director for the expansion, said, "Imagine you enter a lush green valley, hidden in a mountain range," and Jakub Rokosz, game director, added, "Letten, albeit a land of plenty, has a dark underbelly. It wouldn't be a Witcher adventure if Geralt didn't have anything to do" [4].

The story centers on Geralt investigating the disappearance of his long-time friend and bard Dandelion (Julian Alfred Pankratz, Viscount de Lettenhove) [6, 2, 4]. The expansion introduces new enemies like the acid-shooting Thornbloom plants, hornet-protected ghoul-like Swarmions, and features a boss fight with an undead knight [6, 2]. It also brings a new chain whip weapon that allows Geralt to pull enemies closer and perform new combat finishers, reminiscent of weapons from the original Witcher game and novels [1, 6, 5, 2, 3].

Songs of the Past is comparable in size to the Blood and Wine expansion, offering dozens of hours of gameplay [1, 2]. Unlike a prelude to The Witcher 4, the expansion is Geralt's final major adventure before passing the torch to Ciri [1]. The classic Witcher 3 gameplay style remains intact, with no major changes to the core system [6]. There are hints of Geralt’s dry humor, and Dandelion’s cousin Lilla may be a potential romance option [6, 2].

The remastered edition, launching September 29, 2026, updates the game's graphics, combat, and skill systems while remaining accessible to existing owners at no extra cost [1, 5, 4]. Songs of the Past is scheduled for release in 2027, with no exact date announced yet [6, 3, 4].
