Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War 4 will now launch on December 3, 2026, delayed from its original September 17 release date to allow developers more time for performance optimization and bug fixes, the publisher announced today [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]. Players who purchase the Commander Edition will get early access beginning November 30, 2026 [1, 2, 3, 4, 5].
Creative Director Jan Theysen said, "As we approached the final stages of development, we saw an opportunity to further enhance Dawn of War 4 and deliver the quality of experience we've always envisioned. The additional time will allow us to continue optimising performance, resolving bugs, and applying further polish to ensure players have the best possible experience from day one" [2]. He added in Chinese, "We decided to delay the release date to December 3. Like many of you, we were looking forward to playing the game in September, but we sincerely believe this is the right decision, and the extra wait will be worth it" [5].
Thousands of players took part in community playtesting and brought feedback that helped the developers improve gameplay and fix issues [5]. The delay also moves the game out of a crowded September window with many major titles launching then [1, 2]. Dawn of War 4 will release on PC via Steam [5].
Post-launch, the developers updated the content roadmap. Free updates in early 2027 include Crusade Mode and the first map pack [1, 2, 4, 5]. Additional free and paid downloadable content will launch through 2027, including a second map pack, Lord Ahmnok character for Last Stand and Crusade modes, a Blood Ravens story prologue, a mission editor, a third map pack, and a large campaign expansion titled Aftermath featuring a new faction [1, 2, 4, 5].
The next key date for fans is November 30, 2026, when Commander Edition buyers can access the game in advance of the December 3 official release [1, 2, 3, 4, 5].
