Square Enix unveiled Evercold, the next Final Fantasy 14 expansion, on May 4 and said it will plunge Eorzea into an ice age as the Godless Realms Saga continues after Dawntrail. [1]
The company said patch 8.0 will add a new Alliance Raid called Ghosts of Desire, with a crossover that brings in Neon Genesis Evangelion’s Eva Unit-01 and music from the anime series. [1]
Square Enix also said the game's free trial will expand through Shadowbringers, up to patch 5.5. [1]
The studio is reworking combat with two options: Reborn Mode, which keeps classic combat, and Evolved Mode, which puts more weight on job identity. It also said patch 8.0 will add 2 new jobs, one tank and one physical ranged DPS, but gave no details on either class. [1]
Character customization will expand in patch 8.0, and the game will switch to a seasonal structure that groups even- and odd-numbered patches into one season. Square Enix said the season system will overhaul how players earn rewards and progress characters, but will not require season passes. [1]
The company also said it will remove daily duties and replace them with a weekly progression system to ease time demands on players. [1]
Final Fantasy 14’s Fan Festival presentation on May 4 laid out the Evercold rollout and the patch 8.0 changes, with the new season structure and progression system set to reshape how players advance through future updates. [1]
